Bali’s most romantic beach (no longer exists, sorry)…

Padang Padang beach is where a fretful Julia Roberts stormed off on Javier Bardem for thoughtlessly and cruelly hiring a boat in order to sail her into the Bali sunset. (Maybe she was stressed at the price of Tampax?)

Anyway, at the time of filming Eat, Pray, Love it was a wonderful, magical slice of secluded paradise in the Uluwatu area. It was undoubtedly Bali’s most romantic beach. To get to it from street level you had to step carefully through a passage between two higher cliffs, but crystal clear azure waters awaited with sparkling white sands and cliff formations not unlike those of Phi Phi or Railay in Thailand. And you probably didn’t ever see a 95 year old lady carrying the world’s largest ice-lolly down those steps either…20130613-231330.jpg
Those things are still there of course, but today we could hardly see them through the fog of Bintang paraphernalia.20130613-230105.jpg

Padang Padang is also a bit of a surfer’s Mecca, but today I hardly saw the surfers either, because to be honest I was mostly looking at this bloke running about in the sea in his jeans, while carrying an iPad.

Honestly. What would Julia say?
