The compensation that wasn’t…

images

I’ll just have a nice few relaxing days by the pool, I thought. You know, Sydney is such a stressful city, I really think I deserve a little holiday, at least until my eyes get better (long story). “The pool is closed for maintenance,” said Putu at the Legian 101 reception desk after I’d personally dragged Winnie the Pooh up a flight of stairs because the bellboy was too busy on his mobile phone to help me. “Excuse me?” “Closed …

Sneak peek of Balilicious book cover…

bookkk

Whoo hoo! It’s all been fixed and tweaked and here’s the cover I was presented with at HarperCollins this morning . Coming soon to a real shelf near you! (I snuck into Dymocks with the mock up… you can’t actually buy it in shops yet!) I met my lovely publisher and editor, Jeanne and Jennifer in their fancy office on Elizabeth Street in Sydney, and we ate cake and talked shop. Exciting! I never thought I’d be an “author” having …

Ribbed is best…

rib

You wouldn’t think all this meat could fit in one person, would you? Especially a woman. Well you’d be right. I shared it with mum, and oh MY word, it was good. Scallywags here on Gili Trawangan has some of the best hot, BBQ’d pig a girl could wish for. Although, it has to be said, the ribs here are not as good as the ones in Naughty Nuri’s, in Ubud. If you think you know all there is to …

The bar that is also an office…

Pesona_Gili_T

The best and worst thing about being a freelancer is that you get to make your office anywhere you want. It’s the best thing if you’re a disciplined soul who cherishes silence and being alone in order to get a job done. It’s the worst thing if silence terrifies you into a severe case of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) and you feel a constant need to surround yourself with people, just in case something exciting happens. Over the last …

Introducing Joss…

20120417-161623.jpg

Joss oh evil, evil Joss. It’s a Gili must but all who’ve tried it know it’s less beneficial to your health and more a knock to your head that causes the biggest hangover on earth. Well, that is of course, if you insist on mixing it with vodka. I just picked a few up for Anzac Day back in Australia. Naturally.

Visiting Time At The Zoo. A True Story…

monkey_friends

“Hello, how are you?” said the wild grey macaque as he bounded up to his friend. “Oh, hey Little Mac. I’m OK. Had some banana. Looked at the view. Same as yesterday.” “Why don’t you come out and play?” The red monkey frowned. “Once again, I will have to live vicariously through you, Little Mac. Tell me more of your adventures!” The grey macaque sighed. He’d been visiting his friend red monkey for months, and still could never quite explain …

A Gili Air Share…

IMG_1348

Thought I’d share a few piccies from today on Gili Air. That’s dad, enjoying a coconut. The sky really was that blue! I always love heading over to the second biggest Gili island as it’s so photogenic and definitely a lot more peaceful than Gili Trawangan. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Gii T, but it’s a bit noisy, and dare I say, a bit dirty in some parts, now. Development is happening so quickly. There’s a spa here …

Tsunami or not Tsunami, that is the question….

Just when you think you’re safe in your luxury villa with your swimming pool and your two wooden statues of cross-legged soldiers who don’t even look Indonesian, and your croaking geckos and your plans to go to the Gilis… There has been another earthquake, which has shaken Sumatra and consequently lots of people I know. This is not something to be taken lightly. As we all know, “Indonesia straddles a series of fault lines that makes the vast island nation …

Did I tell you I’m a part time model now?

No? Well I am. I did a shoot for Vogue a while back but they decided to put Kate Hudson on the cover and instead, they sold the shots of me to Bali’s Spa & Wellness magazine for $0.99. They also didn’t tell me that this transaction had taken place… but this could be because it was all done in Indonesian. I wasn’t wearing any make up and my dress was a bit creased so they chose the one where …

Boars, bread and the “real” Bali…

When you ask if a resort has brown bread and the waitress nods and smiles, you expect some brown bread to be delivered. What you don’t expect, is for a plate of cheap sugary white bread to show up that is indeed brown, because it has been toasted. Still, bread issues aside, Jen and I are having a lovely time in our adventures in northwest Bali. We spent two nights at the Puri Lumpung in Munduk, which is the REAL …
